Old sounds new.

Idea.

perc.cello is a duo formed by the outstanding cellist Katarzyna Cichoń and percussionist Wojciech Lubertowicz. Their original reinterpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suites, which marked the beginning of their collaboration, boldly restores the suites’ long-forgotten dance character, bringing tradition and modernity together. This distinctive reading of the Baroque master’s works is not simply a recreation of the rhythms of the period, but a creative development of them. Traditional frame drums, combined with contemporary performance techniques and the sound of a historical cello, allow perc.cello to masterfully bridge the gap between the old and the new.

Together, they bring an entirely new dimension to classical music by combining Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suites with the sounds of percussion instruments from around the world. Conceived as a cycle of dances, Bach’s suites gradually lost much of their dance character over time, becoming works focused primarily on the virtuosity of the soloist. perc.cello uses frame-drum parts to creatively develop the underlying dance rhythms and restore the suites’ forgotten identity as music rooted in dance.
